DRAPER, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Flexpoint Sensor Systems, Inc. (OTCBB:FLXT - News), announced today that Intertek Industrial Corporation and Road Rescue, Inc. received the Blue Ribbon Innovation Award for safety for its “Triangle of Safety” product, at the 2009 EMS show recently held in Las Vegas, NV.

“This is a continuation of the system that Flexpoint developed in cooperation with INTERTEK and we are pleased with its success and acceptance in the industry. This award follows in the tradition of achievement awards for Flexpoint and its products,” stated Clark Mower, President of Flexpoint.

“This is a continuation of the system that Flexpoint developed in cooperation with INTERTEK and we are pleased with its success and acceptance in the industry. This award follows in the tradition of achievement awards for Flexpoint and its products,” stated Clark Mower, President of Flexpoint.

This product combines technology with the layout of the patient care compartment in emergency vehicles to create a safer work environment. The Triangle of Safety involves several different components.

  • An LED display panel provides the driver with valuable information including red, yellow or green LEDs.
  • An additional audible alarm sounds when occupant(s) are seated but not buckled in.

Crashes involving ambulances are the most probable cause of EMS fatalities. The fatality rate for EMS workers is more than twice the national average. Most serious injuries and over 80% of fatal injuries occur in the rear of an ambulance from improperly restrained, or unrestrained occupants.

According to The Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, annually an average of 4,332 Emergency Medical Technicians, (EMTs), are injured on the job. Between 2003 and 2006 45 EMTs were killed and only 10 of those fatalities involved collisions. Additional statistics suggest that 25% of firefighters killed in the line of duty are responding to or returning from incidents.

The Company also recently negotiated a settlement agreement on the legal action and patent encroachment that the Company filed in early spring of 2009. Under the terms of the agreement, the company will receive royalty fees based on sales of the product.

“We are excited to continue to receive recognition as one of the strongest products in our field,” Clark Mower, President of Flexpoint Sensor Systems, stated. “We continue to receive orders for both of these systems and anticipate that we will receive additional orders this year and continuing into the future. We also feel that it is important that we have successfully and aggressively protected our patented Bend Sensor® technology.”
