Flexpoint Advances in
Several Industries
March 11,2009 8:00 AM
ETDRAPER, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Flexpoint Sensor Systems, Inc. (OTCBB:FLXT )
announced today
significant progress in
multiple industries.
Medical Beds The
Company announced in
November of last year
that it had executed a
long-term Manufacturing
Agreement with a major
medical mattress
manufacturing company,
wherein Flexpoint will
manufacture the sensors
to be utilized in the
medical bed. The bed is
a pressure-managing bed
which utilizes Flexpoint
Bend Sensor® Technology
to precisely identify
areas of the body where
high pressure skin
contact is most
vulnerable and
redistributing pressure
when and where needed.
It is the Bend Sensor®
Technology that allows
the bed to read,
interpret and respond to
all information. The
Company expects to be in
production on the
sensors for the bed
later this year.
The medical bed
industry generates
approximately $7 billion
in revenue annually.
Flexpoint expects to
supply sensors to meet
the great demand for
this and similar
applications.
“This is currently
our premier product and
we expect that a 10%
market share of this
segment of the industry
is achievable over the
next few years,” said
Clark Mower, President
of Flexpoint Sensor
Systems.
Theatre Seats
We continue to work with a cinema theatre management firm to place Bend Sensors®
in every seat in a movie
theatre to monitor
customer’s paid
attendance and to
identify open available
seats.
The Company has
supplied several next
generation prototype
sensors which have
undergone extensive and
rigorous testing by the
theater management firm.
The theater
management firm has
recently installed
sensors in some theater
seats to complete the
testing process.
This system can
be applied to new
theatre construction and
can also be retrofitted
into existing movie
theatre complexes.
There are over
37,000 Movie Theater
Screens in the US and
several times that
throughout the world.
It is estimated theater
seats are
replaced/refurbished
approximately every
seven years.
Emergency
Vehicles
The “smart” passenger
safety system is
installed in the seats
of the rear compartment
of Emergency Vehicles
and provides the driver
with constant feed back
as to the “seated and
secured” status of
personnel in the rear of
the vehicle.
The product is currently
installed in about 20
emergency vehicles with
deliveries of an
additional 30 units
under the second
purchase order to begin
this month. The system
is currently in use in
emergency vehicles in
the US and is being
tested in applications
for other types of
emergency vehicles.
Sports Applications
Flexpoint is working
closely with a
manufacturer to develop
several sports related
products that the
company anticipates
could be brought to
market before the end of
the year.
Working
prototypes have been
completed and tested.
Designs have been
modified and additional
prototypes are being
developed for further
testing before
production can begin.
It is expected
that these products will
be into production
before year end.
Toys
The Company is working with a supplier of
products for a major
manufacturer of video
games on the development
of an interactive glove
for use with the gaming
devices.
The Bend Sensor®
is ideally suited for
these applications.
Other products
utilizing Bend Sensor®
technology are also
being discussed.
While
the company has made
substantial progress in
all these areas over the
last few months, the
biggest applications
likely will be in the
automotive industry.
The company plans
on updating the public
shortly as the company
continues to develop
multiple products in
this industry that will
be available in 2009.
“We expect that
this year will be a
breakout year for the
company,” stated Clark
Mower, President of
Flexpoint Sensor
Systems.
