Flexpoint Announces Use
of Sensors for Rupture
Disc Application

announced that they are
working with a major
supplier in the
development of a rupture
disc/bursting disc
utilizing the Bend
Sensor® as the
detection/alarm element
of a rupture disc
device.
A rupture disc or
bursting disc is a
pressure relief device
that protects a vessel
or system from
overpressurization. A
rupture disc is designed
to fail at a
predetermined pressure
or temperature to
protect the rest of the
equipment from failing.
Rupture discs are
commonly used in
aerospace, aviation,
defense, medical,
railroad, nuclear,
chemical and oilfield
applications. They can
be used as single
protection devices or as
a backup device for a
conventional safety
valve; if the pressure
or temperature increases
and the safety valve
fails to operate (or
can't relieve enough
pressure fast enough),
the rupture disk will
burst.
